D Ribose is an important sugar that is an important component of the nucleotide RNA. It is an energy source made from food and is the fuel for mitochondria to produce ATP which provides cellular energy.
Although Ribose is necessary for energy production , the body doesn’t recognize it as a fuel so it has no calorific value
